Genetic Health & Breed Integrity
At our cattery, excellence begins with intention. Every Maine Coon in our breeding program undergoes comprehensive DNA testing for the most significant breed-specific genetic conditions, ensuring each pairing is guided by both science and responsibility.
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM – Maine Coon Variant)
HCM is the most recognized cardiac condition within the Maine Coon breed. Through DNA screening for the known mutation, we gain valuable insight into each cat’s genetic status. While no single test can predict all forms of heart disease, this knowledge allows us to make discerning, informed breeding decisions that prioritize long-term health.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
SMA is a recessive condition that affects muscle development in kittens. With precise genetic screening, we are able to identify carriers and ensure that all pairings are thoughtfully selected to prevent affected offspring—preserving both strength and vitality in our lines.
Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKDef)
PKDef is a hereditary condition associated with anemia. By testing each breeding cat, we ensure this recessive condition is never expressed in our kittens, maintaining the robust health our cattery is known for.
A Higher Standard of Care
Genetic testing is not simply a protocol—it is part of our philosophy. By combining advanced screening with selective, intentional breeding practices, we protect the integrity of our lines while honoring the legacy of the Maine Coon breed.
Our commitment is simple: to offer not only exceptional beauty, but enduring health and confidence in every kitten we place.
Echocardiogram Screening
The heart health of our Maine Coons is something we take very seriously. To help ensure we are producing the healthiest kittens possible, all of our breeding cats undergo routine echocardiogram screenings.
What is an Echocardiogram?
An echocardiogram is a specialized ultrasound of the heart performed by a licensed veterinary cardiologist. This non-invasive test allows detailed evaluation of heart structure and function, making it the most reliable tool for detecting conditions such as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).
What is HCM?
HCM is a genetic condition that causes thickening of the heart muscle, which can affect normal heart function. While it can develop at any age, responsible screening helps reduce the risk of passing this condition to future generations.
Our Approach
Performed by Specialists
All echocardiograms are conducted by board-certified veterinary cardiologists to ensure accuracy and expert interpretation.
Routine, Repeated Screening
Because heart conditions like HCM can develop over time, our breeding cats are screened regularly—not just once.
Early Detection Matters
Regular echocardiograms allow us to identify any changes early and make responsible decisions for the health of our breeding program.
Responsible Breeding
Any cat with abnormal findings is removed from our breeding program.
